Library’s free chess lessons aim to strengthen players

Library’s free chess lessons aim to strengthen players: Children who gathered Saturday in Ray Martinez’s classroom at the Brownsville Public Library were there to learn battle strategy.
Zeny Cruz is simply winning chess matches and is quickly become an Elementary chess powerhouse. Today, Zeny won all her chess matches in the K-3 section of the Veteran's HS Chess Tournament. She was today's Co-Champion and increased her USCF Rating to 749 after only four tournaments.
Outstanding Job Zeny!! I am so PROUD of you.
This 3rd grader will be competing in the K-5 section at the Russell chess tournament. She is training for Nationals next year.

Today's Co-Champion in the K-1 section of the Veteran's HS Chess Tournament was the amazing Ezra Rincones. Ezra won every chess match today and increased his USCF Rating to 894. This little 1st grader will soon be competing in the K-5 section
at future chess tournaments. Awesome Job Ezra.

3 cheers for this Royal Knight!!! Edward Maciel 
He came to the Manzano MS Chess Tournament to WIN. 
Today he won all his 5 chess matches and took home 
the 1st place Trophy in the K-12 Under 1300 section. 
His new USCF Rating is now 1325. 

Edward is doing awesome with his chess lessons 
and has goals of reaching 2000. 
I know he will achieve his goal.

JONAS APACIBLE 
This Royal Knight wins the 27th place trophy at the K-5 Under 900 section of the Chess SuperNationals this weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. He played 7 chess matches, winning 5.5 points in a section of 521 students from all over the United States. Jonas has only been playing since October 2016, that's about 8 months. He is a 3rd grader at Rancho Verde Elementary. He was his team's leading scorer and the team captain as most Royal Knights are. Jonas has had an incredible chess year. He is a true CHAMPION. We set goals and he has managed to achieve them all. I am very proud of you Jonas. It's an honor to be your chess coach. You did your job at SuperNationals.

Esai Sandoval
My Royal Knights Chess Students have always been 
taught to set goals and achieve greatness. Yes, they 
win trophies and are among the best chess players in 
the area, state and nation.  The mission is to gain 
success, leadership, confidence, and character as
part of their chess training as Royal Knights.
Esai Sandoval has decided to take the next step in 
the Royal Knights Chess Training which only a few 
have been able to take and achieve. Among those 
few Royal Knights are Philip Martinez, Oziel Juarez, 
Christian Muraira, Daniel Hung, Zach Sunderland, 
Edgar Santoyo,  and Fernando Mendez
the "All American Chess Team member". 
Esai Sandoval will start his training this coming 
week which will include: chess tournaments 
with competition greater than 1600, read books on 
chess and leadership, and getting ready for his 
University career choices. To be a Royal Knight is 
not only about becoming a CHESS PLAYER, but 
becoming a LEADER and CHAMPION in life.

Felix Saldivar ~ K-1 Champion



Felix Saldivar wins top honors at this year's
Regionals at San Benito, Texas. Felix is a first
grader at Hudson Elementary.
He won his first 6 chess matches and drew
the 7th round with his teammate to share
the Championship. It has been a joy to coach
little Felix. Next stop: State and then Nationals

at the Lucio MS Chess Tournament in the K-3 section.
Abeni won every match. Today, no one could win against her!!
She was the Co - Champion and took home the TROPHY.

Royal Knights create a Winning Team

The Royal Knights' Stillman Chess Team 
took the 3rd place Trophy in the K-12 Under 1300 section 
at the Garcia Chess Tournament. 
They played strong and created some amazing checkmates. 
Team members: 
Jonathan Cortes, Brianna Salinas, Esai Sandovaland Osvaldo Cortes.
This team is training for Nationals and in need of sponsors

The Royal Knights K-1 Chess Team

Little chess powerhouse Felix won every match
to win the 1st place trophy. Raul had victories
over 4 and lose 1 to claimed the 10th place trophy.
Amazing Abeni won 3.5 of 5 matches places 16th.
I know they will be big winners at Nationals this May.

Fatima has worked hard this year on her chess

skills. She competed at the "Texas Scholastic
Chess Championships" in Houston, Texas 
where she won the 20th place trophy in the 
Elementary JV section. Fatima is a 3rd grader 
at Brownsville - IDEA. She will travel to 
Dallas , Texas for the "2014 National (K-6)
Elementary Chess Championships in May.

Moid & Moiz Win Trophies



Royal Knights Moid & Moiz Asif
won Trophies at the "2014 Region VIII Chess Championships".
They both won 5 of their 7 chess matches. Moid & Moiz will travel
to Houston, Texas for the "2014 Texas scholastic Chess Championships"
to compete against the strongest Primary Championship Chess Players
in the state of Texas. They will deliver CHECKMATES and bring home
the TROPHIES. Awesome job Moid & Moiz!!!

Brianna Salinas wins 1st place Trophy

Brianna Salinas completed at the Hanna chess tournament this 
Saturday, January 11, 2014. She's an awesome  5th grader at 
Sharp Elementary. Brianna played 5 chess matches and won all 
of them: perfect score. She won the 1st place trophy in the K-12 
under 1000 division. Her new USCF Chess Rating is 1125. 
Brianna will compete at regionals and then go to Houston for the 
State Chess Championships. I am so Proud of you, Brianna.

Priscilla and Ricky Davila wins Trophies
This brother and sister team has been winning more chess
matches lately. Priscilla won 4 of her 5 matches and fought 
her way to the 15th place trophy. Ricky won all his matches
that day and become a Co-Champion, but after tied-
breakers took home the 3rd place trophy. I am so PROUD 
of you both. If you study your notes...you will WIN.

Osvaldo's new USCF Rating: 1046

Royal Knight Osvaldo Cortes, 

a 6th grader at Stillman MS takes home the 
4th place Trophy this weekend at the Russell Chess 
Tournament in the K-12 Under 1000 Section. 
Osvaldo started playing chess this past Summer 
and has only played in 8 chess tournament this year. 
He has already reach a USCF Rating of 1046. Osvaldo 
is the type of student that wants to be the best at
whatever he decides to do. Osvaldo is a Pilot,
a soccer player, and an honor student (all "A" s).
I am so PROUD of you Osvaldo.

Moid Asif Chess Co-Champion
























              Royal Knights Student Moid Asif 
won all his chess matches and took home the big TROPHY
He competed in the USCF Rated Chess Tournament at
Faulk Middle School this weekend in Brownsville, Texas.
He was one of 4 Co-Champions at the end of the tournament.
Moid is the K-5 Under 1000 Champion. he will soon be playing
against older students to test his skills on the chess board.
Moid is a 3rd grader at the Discovery School in Edinburg.
