The biggest chess tournament in Brownsville, Texas happen
on February 14-15, 2009 with two days of championship level
chess and 7 rounds before the champions were named.
Dr. Americo Paredes Elementary did a great job hosting
this chess tournament in which 1183 chess players came to
Simon Rivera High School to win the biggest prize: Le Trophy
and honor to be named the Valley's best "chessplayer".
Among those present and willing to take the challenge were
the Brownsville Royal Knights. They battled for every square
and created wonderful moves to develop superior positions and
thereby conquered the opponent's king to win the game.
Some Royal Knights also won National trips to Nashville, TN.
